Presentation: Renewable Energy Monitoring with the PI System

Duke Energy Renewables entered the wind power industry in 2007 and has since invested over $2.5 billion into growing its renewable operations. By 2013, it is expected to own and operate an estimated 1800 MW of wind power in six states across the U.S. The solar fleet is also poised for rapid growth and is expected to double in size within the next year. The Renewable Energy Monitoring Center (REMC) is the central hub of communications and operations for this growing portfolio of commercial renewable assets. The REMC currently monitors over 1200 MW of wind power generation and 58.8 MW of solar generation. The center is committed to delivering world-class monitoring services on a 24/7 basis, 365 days a year.

OSIsoft provides the essential tools needed for the daily operations of the REMC. In a business structured around operating equipment from multiple manufacturers, the PI System has become the primary platform for monitoring in the REMC. Advanced use of the PI System has allowed the REMC to increase in value by enabling the development of second-to-none monitoring capabilities through data standardization and visualization.
